Happy Pi Day

I know this is a little late, but it was stuck in my drafts. Here it is!

Here's a cupcakeified approximation of pi, as well as some exact values.
These were a source of constant enjoyment this week.
I might be a bit irrational, but I think pi day is awesome.

Roast beef - in pursuit of perfection

I think I have the roast beef - or more precisely, the roast veggies - worked out.

What I have learned:
- Our new oven seems to be cool
I have started doing the roasts on 200 degrees Celsius, not 180. I also do at least 30 min per 500g (not 20 - 25 min as per the instructions)

For the last ten - 15 minutes I turn the oven up to about 230 to help things really crisp up.

I've been buying the roast in marinade and will continue to do so for the time being.

- Veggies
Veggies need two hours, at 200, plus the 230 blast at the end. What I do now is put the veggies on two hours before we want to eat, and then add the meat later depending on how large it is

I've been scoring them with a fork and covering with flour and olive oil (not avocado oil like I was doing) before cooking. This really crisps them up.

Some steamed greens are needed and a nice touch - green beans or broccolini. I've been setting the timer for the last 15 mins, turn the oven up, do the greens, put the plates in the oven, set the table etc which works well.

I need to cut up less veggies. As wonderful as all those crispy potatoes and sweet potatoes are, it's not good for portion control when we're struggling to finish them. We aren't really keen on bubble and squeak so left over veggies tend to go to waste. Left over meat is planned and used in salads, but not the veggies.

After several attempts, I now feel that I have the roast down as a 'regular' - the sort of meal that I could make half paying attention. I know what sort of quantities to buy, what time frames are needed, what to do about leftovers and so on.

Time to tablet up!

Well, it seems that I'm now the proud owner of a table computer! I'm still trying to work it out, but so far we're loving it!

I changed the case and got a new one which protects both the back and the screen better. I also wanted a case which was good for sitting on my lap as well as on the desk.

I've been using the blogger app which I can't really do much on, apart from write and upload photos to go at the end of the post. I can't do in text linking or comments. It is useful, however, to use the blogger app to add photos to a new post, and then for me to write the post with my laptop later. It's an easy way to get the photos off the tablet without having to upload to a photo hosting site or mess about with memory cards and the like. I'm still getting used to it (hence my non-posted posts) buy hopefully I'll work it out soon.

I don't have an iPhone but a very basic smart phone, with very few apps. Well, there are lots of apps but they aren't 'proper' ones. Apart from facebook and eBay, most of the apps are stand alone. There aren't any apps for newspapers or news service, my bank, or any other real - life existing organisations. It's nice to be able to use them on the tablet.

Chubs is loving some of the toddler apps but I'm still playing around with it and deciding what to buy, and what is ok with the free ones.

A rainy Saturday...

I wrote this post on Saturday and I though it had uploaded, but it seems that it hadn't. Better late than never!

Today Chubs went for a trip with her aunty today and had a marvelous time. AK and B picked her up and took her on a train ride into the city. It's still raining and raining and raining so they spent lots of time trying not to get wet but had a great time. Home for a dry change of clothes, some milk and cupcakes, and they headed off again.

She's home again now, and pooped from her big day out! Thankfully Dear Husband and I are feeling a little less pooped than usual, thanks to a nap without a starfishing toddler, and some child free housework.

A roast for dinner and a sleeping baby girl. Life is good.
